Techs and Luthiers / Diagrams

For more experienced customers, guitar techs and luthiers, there are many economical and creative ways to further improve the flexibility & performance of your guitar.  Over three dozen popular custom wiring plans are offered on the web page which follows. Using Adobe Acrobat™, these standard PDF files will display on screen and will print on letter-sized paper, in black & white.

All upgrade suggestions are 100% reversible. None require any modification to the guitar; just minor wiring changes, and/or swapping controls with popular alternate parts, such as push-pull volume controls.

To maintain resale value, Stellartone advises against "creative" customizations that involve drilling new holes for micro toggles or extra pots in any guitar, or disturbing factory solder joints in original-condition guitars built before 1966.

Please click here for detailed information on wire color-coding and the proper grounding of your guitar. This information is not included on the following custom wiring diagrams.

Note: Some models by Carvin®, Epiphone®, Ibanez®, PRS SE®, Schecter® and Squier® may be fitted with metric size pots which mount through an 8mm hole. If you are upgrading one of these metric guitars with a ToneStyler, click here for installation information.

These wiring diagrams are designed in an easy-to-follow pictorial style, using photos from guitars; no formal training is needed to perform these control upgrades. Just locate the guitar's pickup & knob layout in the list, and then decide which variation best matches the guitarist's style and preferences.
