Option B: Page one shows the original Fender Jazz Bass wiring. Page two shows the original 250kΩ bridge pickup volume pot replaced with a 500kΩ/500kΩ mono blend pot, and the original 250kΩ "master" tone pot replaced with a ToneStyler; the original 250kΩ neck pickup volume pot is re-wired as the new master volume pot.
Open the PDF in full-page view, and use your mouse wheel or page buttons to "flip" back and forth to compare the easy "before" and "after" wiring. For a clear close-up view of all wiring details, zoom in to the 100% - 400% image size range.
There are several sonic and performance advantages when converting the dual-volume J-bass to a master volume control plan:
• Fender's original signal flow error resulting from connecting a "master" tone pot to post-volume signals is remedied
• The blend pot allows the player's preferred balance between neck & bridge pickup levels to be exactly maintained, independent of volume adjustments
• A single-circuit tone control will be properly-connected to one or both pickup outputs at all times, at the ideal "pre-volume" 100% signal level provided at the mono blend pot's output.
Using your new blend pot: turn knob to full-clockwise for maximum volume on soloed neck pickup; turn knob to full-anti-clockwise for maximum volume on soloed bridge pickup; turn knob to the center detent notch for maximum volume on both pickups mixed together. If the soloed bridge pickup is preferred upon full-clockwise blend knob rotation, just swap the two pickup hot wires on the blend pot.
